Loudoun and Western Fairfax Chapter

The New Virginia Majority Loudoun and Western Fairfax Chapter has been organizing with the Latin American immigrant community since 2018 around immigrant rights and housing justice.

Housing Justice

Our chapter is engaged in a long-term campaign to increase access to affordable housing for all working-class people in Loudoun, including the immigrant community. Thanks to the mobilization of NVM members and allies through the Loudoun Housing Justice Coalition, we have successfully led campaigns to:

  • Remove legal status requirements for the county’s Affordable Dwelling Unit (ADU) program to increase accessibility for the immigrant community.
  • Increase access to pandemic rental assistance.
  • Stop the sale and redevelopment of Leesburg Mobile Park, preventing the displacement of nearly 75 working-class, predominantly Latinx families.
  • Establish a dedicated revenue stream for housing as part of the county budget, securing over $18 million in committed funds for housing in FY2023.

Drivers Privilege Card

Our chapter worked with the statewide coalition from 2018 to 2020 to guarantee the right to all Virginians regardless of immigration status. This law went into effect in January 2021 and we have been helping our members to prepare for their exams. We achieved this huge victory through meetings, marches, and calls to our representatives. We know that when we organize, we win!
