Media Advisory: Community searches for Norfolk Southern CEO James Squires

New Virginia Majority
September 15, 2017

Norfolk, VA - On Saturday, September 16th, Lamberts Point community will continue their “search” for Norfolk Southern CEO James Squires in an effort to meet with him and discuss the coal dust that is harming predominantly Black communities in Lambert’s Point.

The launch of the search comes after multiple failed attempts to get Squires's attention to meet with people directly affected by the coal dust. Community members will post the flyers calling for people to send a picture if they have a Squires sighting, as well as ways to get involved in the campaign

Every day, 10 Americans die from asthma. In addition to covering the coal cars, we need institutions, such as the EPA to be fully supported, funded, and given the resources and regulators to avoid air contamination like what we are facing here in Lambert’s Point.

WHEN:  11:00 AM - 1:00 PM Saturday, September 16th, 2017
WHO:  Community members and leaders from Lambert’s Point, VA
WHAT: Gathering for community members to meet, share stories, launch a search
WHERE: Starting on the lawn at Lambert’s Point Baptist Church, 1268 W 38th St, Norfolk, VA from 23508, flyering along 38th and Bowden's Ferry Rd.
