New Virginia Majority 2021 Election Statement

New Virginia Majority
November 03, 2021

Richmond, VA -The results from this election show us that we have critical work ahead to continue to build on the progress we have made over the past few years. The issues that are important to working-class communities of color are not tied to a specific candidate or party, but rather to ensure that Virginia is equitable, fair, and inclusive.

We must continue to fight for opportunity and equity for all Virginians, and ensure that the Commonwealth is a welcoming place for all of us. The work is more critical than ever to secure paid family and medical leave, quality health care, a living wage, and much more.

Our communities - working people, people of color, women, immigrants, LGBTQ people, young people, and more -- know what’s at stake. Since January, New Virginia Majority staff and volunteers made over 830,000 phone calls and 500,000 knocks to reach as many voters as possible.

“We cannot afford to move backward -- we have to keep pushing forward,” said Sue Taylor, a canvasser in Virginia Beach who personally knocked on over 3200 doors. “We will continue to hit these streets and knock doors and reach as many people as possible."

We are committed to continuing to organize, engage, and build power in our communities, and will continue to work towards a state that values all of us. We win when we show communities what’s at stake, and when we provide a bold vision forward with key policies that will improve people’s lives.
